Lollipop chainsaw ps311/5/2023 The game is packed full of pop tunes and pretty much any song from the last fifty years containing the word ‘Lollipop’ is featured. That’s just weird, I can’t think of any other game that refuses to let you pause. Press the button and a small icon flashes on screen with the word ‘Pause’ crossed out. The most bizarre aspect of the game (and bear in mind this is game in which you can castrate linebackers with a chainsaw between the legs) is that at certain points you cannot pause. Lazy programming or accurate zombie behavior, I’ll let you decide. The AI is pretty much non existent with zombies running straight for Juliette and onto the end of her chainsaw. The checkpoints are rather sparse and combined with the lengthy pauses the game can test your pateince. The game also takes an age to load and there instances when the game will load a cutscene, play for ten seconds, then load another cutscene. Other bugs include occasional screen tearing and once I had to reset my PlayStation after Juliette died and the game refused to display the game over screen, leaving me spinning the camera over her lifeless corpse. Lollipop Chainsaw runs off the Unreal engine and whilst quite colourful and inventive it’s not the best looking game and there are plenty of generic alleys and rooftops. The second act also bestows Juliette with a ‘chainsaw dash’ move which sees her flying over ramps and picking up fuel whilst following trails of large gold coins – I was quite suprised Juliette does not wear a blue hedgehog costume for that sequence. ![]() That said, whilst the slashing through the undead gets boring rather quickly, the game breaks up the combat with the occasional bout of zombie basketball, baseball or some quick time events. It is all to easy to get surrounded by a horde of zombies and be continually knocked to the floor, whilst some of the enemy attacks (such as the cops who fire guns) seem to be unblockable. The combat improves when enough coins have been collected to unlock new moves but at the start of the game it is rather like chainsawing through treacle. Sadly the combat is rather clunky with annoying pauses at the end of combos that leave Juliette vulnerable to attack. Juliet’s playlist will feature well-known songs from numerous musical genres in addition to creative music. There are a limited number of combos at the start of the game, but more can be purchased using the medals gained by defeating enemies and rescuing class mates. Head Bangin’ Music – Lollipop Chainsaw has a soundtrack to die for, composed by well-known video game composer Akira Yamaoka (well known for the Silent Hill series) in collaboration with an unnamed artist. Zombie Rock Lords – When Juliet quickly learns that she faces a greater challenge, zombie rock lords that add a new “beat” to SUDA 51’s outrageous boss battles, San Romero High’s zombie jocks and undead faculty become the least of her worries. However, she quickly learns that the horde is just the beginning of a festival of zombie rock lords intent on eliminating her.Ĭombat/Weapons: To defeat hordes of the undead, players must perfect their cheerleading acrobatics and chainsaw maneuvers. Tense narrative – In a James Gunn-adapted story, Juliet is forced to investigate the cause of a massive zombie outbreak at San Romero High School. Gameplay Design – Renowned game developer SUDA 51 infuses the gameplay design with his distinct creative vision and creative style, leading players on a wild adventure filled with zombies, chainsaws, and rainbows. ![]() ![]() Juliet has to reconcile her zombie-hunting ancestry with the drama of high school. Juliet Starling, an 18-year-old student with a sinister secret, hunts zombies with a deadly chainsaw. In addition, the script for Lollipop Chainsaw was written by Hollywood filmmaker and writer James Gunn (Super, Slither, Dawn of the Dead, Tromeo and Juliet). Lollipop Chainsaw is being created by GRASSHOPPER MANUFACTURE, under the direction of renowned game creator Goichi Suda (aka SUDA 51), and includes music by the esteemed Akira Yamaoka. Juliet slices, dices, and splits her way through hordes of the undead with her wickedly fantastic chainsaw in hand, but she quickly finds the horde is merely the first act of a festival of zombie rock lords out to murder the chainsaw-wielding cheerleader. The ‘un-lethal’ tale of sweet and deadly zombie-hunter Juliet Starling and her quest to find the cause of a massive zombie epidemic is told in Lollipop Chainsaw.
